January 24, 2020

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – According to Sheriff Tony Chavis, around 8 p.m. Thursday, a Darlington County Sheriff’s Patrol Deputy in the area of Lakeview Blvd. and N. 5th St. witnessed two individuals attempt to conduct what appeared to be an illegal drug transaction in the parking lot of the Lakeview Motel.  The Deputy was familiar with one of the individuals and knew the person had outstanding warrants for their arrest.  As the Deputy attempted to make contact with the individual known to have outstanding warrants, the individual fled into a motel room.  The Deputy pursued the individual, having to make forced entry into the room, locating two individuals.  The second individual located also had outstanding warrants for their arrest.

Patrol Deputies took Teddy Wayne Gainey, 52, and Danette Lavon O’neal, 50, both of Hartsville, into custody. Deputies searched Gainey following his arrest and located narcotic pills.  Deputies also located over $4,500 in cash.  Gainey was served with six General Sessions bench warrants and is charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance.  O’neal was served with two General Sessions bench warrants. Both remain in custody at the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center.  This case remains under investigation.
